Bachelor of Arts: Interdisciplinary Studies, concentration in political science/social science

This program combines the study of politics and government (domestic and international) with courses from other social science disciplines, chosen by students in consultation with advisors from anthropology, economics, geography, history, psychology or sociology. This provides a strong social science foundation which challenges students to consider connections among ethics, science and socially relevant issues. Students gain an integrative understanding of how political considerations are influenced by culture, society, history, location, personality and the economy as they develop strong analytical, critical thinking and communication skills. Small classes allow faculty to mentor students. Faculty encourage students to participate in internships, collaborate with them on research, present at national conferences, develop leadership skills, get involved in political campaigns, work with grassroots organizations, and participate in domestic and international field trips to gain hands-on experience. Students can augment their major requirements with a variety of electives to support their individual interests, graduate/professional school plans, or career goals. This program also provides an excellent preparation for students interesting in going to law school.
