This NCATE-certified program combines a professional teaching preparation curriculum with a liberal arts concentration in biology. Education methods courses, a semester-long sophomore practicum, and a semester of student teaching put UMF students in the classroom early in their program and often. Tutoring on campus, assisting in biology labs, and volunteering in local schools provide more opportunities to gain experience teaching biology in a variety of settings. Students are prepared to teach biology (grades 7 to 12), to enter a biology-related career field, or to pursue graduate study in education or biology. Students wishing to earn a Middle Level Teacher Endorsement can take additional courses in a second content area and the Middle School Education course.
