This NCATE-certified program combines a professional teaching preparation curriculum with a liberal arts concentration in physical science. Education methods courses, a semester-long sophomore practicum, and a semester of student teaching put UMF students in the classroom early in their program and often. Tutoring on campus, assisting in physical science labs, and volunteering in local schools provide more opportunities to gain experience teaching science in a variety of settings. Students choose an emphasis in chemistry, Earth science, or physics and are prepared to teach science (grades 7 to 12), to enter a science-related career field, or to pursue graduate study in education or science. Students wishing to earn a Middle Level Teacher Endorsement can take additional courses in a second content area and the Middle School Education course.
