You may choose a minor field of study, commonly called a minor, along with your major. A minor usually consists of 20 credits of study. Minors are optional, but many students find that a minor is helpful in providing greater career opportunities after graduation. The requirements for the various minors are listed within individual majors as well as in this section.

Students seeking to minor in Anthropology are required to take 20 credits; 12 of these must be ANT 101S, ANT 103S, as well as one of the People's and Cultures Courses. The remaining 8 credits must consist of courses that are at the 200 level or higher.

ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES MINOR
The Environmental Studies minor is a multidisciplinary program, spanning most areas of the arts and sciences. Students will apply the coherence and perspective of their major to the study of the environment, preparing them to relate their careers to environmental issues or nature. Students seeking a major in environmental studies should speak to their advisor or the coordinator of the Environmental Studies minor about developing an individualized program (or they should consider majors in Environmental Science or Environmental Policy & Planning).

(2) At least two courses in Natural Sciences or Math (see below for list of courses fulfilling this requirement)
(3) At least two courses in Humanities, Visual and Performing Arts, Psychology, Social Sciences and Business, and Rehabilitation and Community Health (see below for list of courses fulfilling this requirement)
Notes
At least two courses must be at the 200-level or higher. More than one introductory course may be taken, which may count for #2 & #3 above. No more than 8 credits in a student's major may be counted toward these course requirements.
Further Requirement
Participation in significant research, creative work, service, or internship related to the environment, during the academic year or summer. This requirement can be met by (1) paid or volunteer work outside of courses on or off campus, (2) a capstone project or thesis in the major, or (3) a major senior level project in a credit-bearing course when pre-approved. This requirement is in addition to the five courses above.
To insure a meaningful experience, the following are required parts of the experience:
+ Sponsorship by a faculty member;
+ Proposal describing goals and activities submitted to the Environmental Studies minor coordinator for approval before the experience;
+ Log or summary of hours invested in the experience;
+ Letter about the experience from the person supervising the experience (faculty member or off-campus supervisor);
+ A document or creative work that describes and reflects on the experience and addresses the extent to which goals were met. This can be in whatever form is appropriate for the student and the experience. For example, some may use a journal maintained during the experience, whereas others might choose a brief report at the end.
+ The log, letter, and writing should be submitted to the Environmental Studies minor coordinator for approval.

Nutrition EDUCATION Minor
The nutrition education minor presents an opportunity for students in any major to study the basics of good nutrition. The coursework will allow students to utilize principles of health education to examine the impact of dietary interventions on a variety of populations and in a wide array of settings. The minor will focus on teaching proper nutrition as a means of disease prevention and health promotion, while increasing awareness of personal health habits as well as the environmental, financial, and social impact that food choices have on individuals and larger communities.
